What does it take to turn a great food idea into a product that couldappear on supermarket shelves?

At the University of Newcastle, Food Science and Human Nutritionstudents work alongside industry partner Sanitarium to develop innovative foodproducts from concept to market-ready prototype, combining nutrition, foodscience, packaging, marketing and business skills.

Throughout the program, students receive mentoring from academics andindustry experts before showcasing their creations at the University's annualFood Product Development Expo.

Recent student innovations have included a high-protein frozen yoghurtbar, an instant chickpea and lentil curry, and savoury toaster waffles packedwith hidden vegetables.

By connecting education, research and industry, the program is helping develop the next generation of food innovators who willshape a healthier, more sustainable and more competitive Australian foodindustry.
